Service Description

Sometimes there is a family relationship that has remained uncertain for years. Two people may believe they are biologically related but lack definitive evidence, or family circumstances, incomplete records or conflicting information may have left an important question unresolved. The Relationship Reconciliation DNA Analysis is designed to investigate whether two, or where appropriate three, people share the biological relationship believed or suspected between them. The service includes the required DNA tests and analysis of the resulting genetic relationship. Depending on the circumstances, the amount of shared DNA, expected relationship ranges and other relevant genetic evidence are assessed to determine whether the proposed relationship is supported, unlikely, or can effectively be excluded. Possible questions might involve siblings or half-siblings, grandparent and grandchild relationships, aunt/uncle relationships, cousins, or other biological connections. Before testing, we discuss the relationship being investigated and determine the most appropriate testing strategy. Although offered primarily as a genealogical and personal family-history service, clients may seek answers for many private reasons. No explanation beyond what is necessary for the analysis is required. Privacy and anonymous testing For clients who value discretion, testing can be arranged using non-identifying profiles, with personal information kept to the minimum required for the analysis. Results are handled privately and are not published or added to public family trees as part of this service. The DNA test kits are included in the service price, so there is no need to purchase testing separately. This service is intended for personal and genealogical information purposes. It is not a legal chain-of-custody DNA test and should not be used where a court, government authority or other organisation requires formally certified relationship testing. Whether the result confirms an expected relationship or provides a different answer, the purpose is to provide a clear, confidential and evidence-based assessment of the biological relationship between the people tested.
