My service philosophy and approach
I believe the greatest discoveries are the ones you make yourself. My role is to help you take those first steps with confidence by giving you the skills, knowledge, and support to explore your family history in your own way. Whether through workshops, one-to-one coaching, or DNA guidance, I take a personal approach, tailoring every session to your goals, experience, and interests.
Family history is much more than collecting names and dates. It's about connecting with the lives, places, and stories that have shaped your family over generations. There is a special sense of achievement in uncovering those stories yourself, and I want every client to experience that excitement. My aim is not simply to answer your questions, but to give you the confidence to keep asking new ones long after our work together has ended.
Because family history is deeply personal, I treat your information with the utmost care. Your privacy, your data, and your trust are always respected, creating a safe and supportive environment in which you can enjoy discovering your family's story.

Getting your family tree started

Every family history begins with a handful of names. But where to go from there, once you have entered the information about your closest relatives? Starting your genealogy journey can feel overwhelming at first. Which website should you choose? Where do you begin? What information should you enter? And how do you know if the records you find actually belong to your family? You don't have to figure it out alone.
In this relaxed one-on-one session over two to three hours, I'll help you take your very first steps into the fascinating world of your family history. Together we'll set up your family tree on Ancestry, MyHeritage, or a free platform if you prefer, enter the information you already have, add treasured family photographs and important documents, and organise everything in a way that will support your future research. Along the way, I'll explain how the platform works, share useful tips and shortcuts, and answer every question you have.
Most importantly, you'll gain the confidence to continue exploring your family history on your own. Before long, you'll be making discoveries yourself, connecting with relatives, uncovering historical records, and watching your family tree grow one branch at a time.
This is a personal, one-on-one service, usually delivered in the comfort of your own home or aged care residence, where we can work together using your computer and your family's memories. The service is currently available throughout the Sydney metropolitan area only. By the end of our session, you'll have more than the beginnings of a family tree—you'll have begun a journey that may become one of the most rewarding hobbies of your life.
Help with growing your family tree and finding relatives
You've built your family tree, discovered dozens—or perhaps hundreds—of ancestors, and maybe even taken a DNA test. But now your progress has slowed. The easy discoveries have been made, and you're wondering where to look next.
This one-on-one mentoring session is designed for family historians who want to take their research further. Together we'll explore more advanced research strategies, search across multiple databases and repositories, and discover new ways to identify relatives and extend your family tree. If you've taken a DNA test, I'll help you better understand your results and show you how to make effective use of tools such as Ancestry's ThruLines™, MyHeritage's Theory of Family Relativity™, shared matches, chromosome information, and ethnicity estimates. We'll also look at how documentary evidence and DNA can be combined to solve research problems.
Every family tree is unique, so each session is tailored to your individual goals. Whether you're trying to identify unknown relatives, overcome a research roadblock, confirm family connections, or simply make better use of the tools available, we'll develop practical strategies that you can continue using long after our session.
This personal mentoring service is usually provided in the comfort of your own home or aged care residence, using your own computer and family records, and is available throughout the Sydney metropolitan area. My aim is not simply to help your family tree grow, but to give you the knowledge and confidence to continue growing it yourself.

Deciding which DNA test is most suitable for you

Choosing the right DNA test is the first step towards getting the answers you're looking for. With several testing companies and different types of DNA tests available, it's important to match the test to your research goals.
In this personalised consultation, we'll discuss what you hope to discover—whether it's finding unknown relatives, exploring your ethnic origins, investigating your paternal or maternal line, or learning more about inherited health traits. Based on your objectives, I'll recommend the DNA test or combination of tests best suited to your needs, including autosomal DNA, Y-DNA, or mitochondrial (mtDNA) testing where appropriate.
This consultation is provided free of charge for clients who book a DNA Test Result Report. It helps ensure that you invest in the most appropriate DNA test from the outset, giving you the best possible foundation for meaningful results and avoiding unnecessary expense.
Making sense of your DNA results
Receiving your DNA test results is exciting—but making sense of them can quickly become overwhelming. Thousands of DNA matches, ethnicity estimates that may or may not align with your expectations, technical terminology like shared centimorgans, and unfamiliar labels can leave you wondering where to begin. That's where I can help.
Together, we'll work through your results step by step, separating meaningful clues from information that is less useful for your research goals. I'll show you how to evaluate DNA matches, identify which connections are likely to be genuine, and recognise those that are simply background noise. You'll also learn practical techniques for grouping matches and determining whether they belong to your maternal or paternal family line. Rather than simply interpreting your results for you, I'll help you understand them, giving you the confidence and skills to use DNA as a powerful tool in discovering your family history. From $140 and up, depending what level of detail you want to explore.

Preparation and artistic design of family trees

Your family tree deserves more than a place on a computer screen. I can transform your research into a beautifully designed family tree, professionally laid out to become a lasting keepsake for your home or a meaningful gift for future generations. Whether you prefer a timeless print or a bespoke presentation in an antique-style frame, each piece is created with care to celebrate your family's unique story and preserve it as a treasured heirloom.
Every family is different, which is why each design is individually tailored to reflect your history and personal style. Working with a professional designer, I create elegant family trees that are both historically accurate and visually striking. The result is more than a chart of names and dates—it's a piece of family heritage that honours the generations who came before you and can be proudly displayed and passed on for many years to come.
Ongoing hands-off family tree management

Not everyone wants to become a genealogist—and that's perfectly fine. If preserving your family's history matters to you, but you'd rather leave the research to someone else, this service is designed with you in mind.
Many people imagine that a family tree can be completed in a weekend. In reality, genealogy is an ongoing journey rather than a one-off project. New historical records are digitised every month, DNA databases continue to grow as more people test, and new DNA matches appear over time. Brick walls that seem impossible today may suddenly disappear when a new record is released or a distant cousin decides to take a DNA test.
I'll continue researching, maintaining, and expanding your family tree on your behalf while you simply sit back and enjoy watching your family's story unfold. Every quarter, you'll receive an update summarising new discoveries, additional ancestors and relatives, newly available documents and photographs, and any breakthroughs that have emerged since the previous report.
It's a simple and enjoyable way to ensure that your family's history continues to grow and is carefully preserved for your children and future generations—without you having to become a hands-on genealogist yourself.
Pricing is modest on a minimum 1-year plan (anything less makes no sense as records, matches and hints appear over time). The monthly price starts at $25. Please inquire.
Exploring your deep English and Scottish roots
.jpg)
Many Australian families have ancestral roots in England or Scotland, often stretching back for centuries. Using a combination of traditional documentary research and, where appropriate, DNA evidence, I'll trace your English and Scottish family lines as far back as the available records allow. Parish registers, probate records, census returns, wills, land records, and many other historical sources can reveal fascinating details about your ancestors and the lives they lived. I'll carefully document each generation, explain the evidence behind my conclusions, and provide you with a clear account of your family's story. This is an online research service tailored to your individual family history.
Exploring your deep German roots
Researching German ancestry often requires specialist knowledge, familiarity with historical records, and an understanding of the many regions and former states that made up Germany. As a native German speaker, I can work directly with original German records and historical documents, helping to overcome language barriers that often prevent further progress. Using church registers, civil records, local archives, and DNA evidence where appropriate, I'll research your German family lines as deeply as the surviving records permit. You'll receive a carefully documented account of my findings, together with the evidence supporting each new generation discovered. This is an online research service designed to help you reconnect with your family's German heritage.

Scanning, digitalisation of family history records & documentation

The service is carried out in the comfort of your own home, so your valuable originals never have to leave your possession. All professional scanning equipment is provided, allowing photographs, documents and other family history materials to be digitised safely and to a high standard. Where appropriate, digital copies can also be organised, labelled and linked directly to individuals in your Ancestry® or MyHeritage® family tree, creating a rich and lasting family archive. Whether you are preserving a lifetime of memories, preparing material for future generations, or simply bringing order to decades of family records, this service provides a secure and practical way to safeguard your family's history.
