Genealogy is often a very individual pursuit, but some of the most enjoyable discoveries happen when people sit down together, compare stories, exchange ideas and talk through the questions they are trying to solve. The Monthly Genealogy Afternoon Tea & Coffee at Balmoral Beach is a relaxed social gathering for anyone with an interest in family history — whether you are an experienced researcher, have only recently started building your family tree, are exploring DNA results, or simply have a family mystery you would like to discuss. Hosted by Daniel N. Arnold, the afternoon is deliberately informal. There is no lecture, set programme or expectation that you arrive with a particular level of knowledge. Instead, it is an opportunity to enjoy a coffee or afternoon tea, meet other people interested in genealogy, exchange experiences and have conversations about the many different directions family-history research can take. You are welcome to bring along questions about your own research, photographs, family stories, difficult ancestors, DNA results or an interesting discovery you have recently made. Sometimes another person may have researched the same place, surname or type of record. At other times, simply talking through a problem can suggest a completely new way of approaching it. The meet-up is also an opportunity to meet me personally and discuss any genealogy or DNA-related questions you may have. If you are considering professional research assistance, DNA analysis, help with starting or managing a family tree, or one of my other services, you can have an informal conversation first and get a feel for whether I may be able to help. There is absolutely no obligation to book a service. The event is intended first and foremost as an enjoyable local genealogy gathering and a way to build a community of people who share an interest in family history. Whether you arrive with a family tree containing thousands of people or simply know the names of your grandparents, you are very welcome. Come along for an afternoon by Balmoral Beach, meet fellow family-history enthusiasts, share a few stories, ask a few questions — and perhaps leave with a new idea for where your research might go next.
